Lost All Along takes the reader on a modern day tour of the ward for sexual deviants in the fictional New Jersey State Mental Health Center, as seen through the eyes of a handsome and witty, yet unreliable, narrator named Julian James. The reader will be plugged into his psyche and given the opportunity to ride along with his thoughts and hallucinations as though they are on a rogue wave. Julian James is a forty-five year old Caucasian male who is committed to a psychiatric ward for patients with strong sexual compulsions. His character is predominately defined by the fact that he is hyper-sexual, which is a symptom of his main affliction, Bipolar Disorder. There are three strong threads that run through Lost All Along. The first is the central storyline of how Julian has learned to get through the nightmare of being institutionalized by getting lost in a humorously fabricated life story. Julian narrates his life story to fellow patients and security guards during his daily manic phase. His story is comprised of a set of extremely random actions and career choices that he manages to mesh together to form a truly psychedelic experience. The second strong thread that holds Lost All Along together is Julian?s constant mind-chatter. Using the stream of consciousness method, the reader discovers his hilarious and unique perspective of the world. The third thread is the current events of this particular day at the hospital. Julian?s life story revelation is frequently disrupted by the wild and comical actions of his fellow patients, security guards and doctors. So have yourself an outrageous summertime trip to this psychiatric ward and you will find Julian and his fellow patients engaging in some of the most absurd and oddly entertaining activities that you have ever come across in your life.
