Trudi has survived nearly three years as a medical student in Paris. Simon, Comte de Beauvonne, her benefactor, is feeling insecure after his heart attack. His first wife of what was supposed to be a marriage of convenience, has died and there are questions to be answered. Trudi has demanded that her marriage remains secret out of respect for the deceased Catherine. While Simon recovers, Trudi has seized the reins of the Beauvonne empire and has set about running it efficiently.
