Frederick Loring was a popular writer from a prominent Boston family. He and seven others were on a stage that was ambushed by Indians 8 miles west of Wickenburg, Arizona Territory, on November 5, 1871. The awful news led to an outpouring of cries to exterminate all Indians in the Territory, and to perpetuation of a long-running frontier bloodbath that reverberated across the nation.
