When 23-year-old, fourth-year medical student Jazmyne Brown is kidnapped from Harvard and interrogated, she has no answers, but she is determined to escape. In her attempt to flee, Jazmyne encourters a handsome man and realizes she is no longer in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jazmyne is presented to the king and his sons: Aryn, who is nothing but hostile towards her and Radek, the younger son whom rescued her. She discovers a secret world that is comprised of born Vamypres, half-Human half-Vampyre called Mielúzkas, and Dragars; soulless Vampyres with a thirst for blood and death. Now that she knows, she has a choice: become a Vampyre or be put to death. As Jazmyne learns all she can about this world before she makes her decision, something unthinkable happens. A small group of Dragars breech the palace walls. It is her first encounter with the Vampyres' and Mielúzkas' sworn enemy and it gives her a defining glimpse of what could become her world. With the pending decision, unanswered questions about the Change, even more questions about where it will leave her, and the undefined budding romance between she and Aryn; Jazmyne does not know what she will do.
