Billy Six is back! After a two year hiatus, the full-time horse-player and part-time investigator has returned to take a case for a friend. Joey Dimitri's Nevada casino has been hit by a string of robberies by a pair of dirt bike bandits and the local police are getting nowhere. Under normal circumstances, his head of security Mo Flowers would handle the matter, but he isn't around. He has been on a mission clouded in secrecy for over a year. Shannon hesitates at first, but then his agoraphobic partner, Vladimir Sovinivich, agrees to go, but only if he does. Theodora Jackson, his significant other, wants to accompany them. He agrees, fully expecting they would name and locate the thieves, hand the information off to the police and then go to Lake Tahoe. That was the plan, but soon after they arrive at the high desert locale, Ranger Six Investigations gets bogged down. Even with the help of Spider's AI, identifying the thieves proved difficult and, when they finally did, their real motive became clear. The robbers wanted much more than Joey's money.
