It's Not Just About Hiv: Women's Lived Experience of Hiv Ligaya Byrch

Since this work was initially completed women have made up more than 50% of the new infections around the world. The impact of HIV on women's lives continues to be a precarious one, even with the rise of new drugs regimes. Women continue to put the lives, needs and wants of others in their lives first. This book will outline an ethnographic example of how women living with HIV in Northeastern Ontario (Canada) lived with HIV in an environment with no women specific programs and challenging access to care. As of 2009, there still is no women specific program offered in Northeastern Ontario, the numbers continue to increase, as do poor methods of coping with life's ups and downs which make many women vulnerable to HIV, Hepatitis C and many other STIs.
