Adonisand Other Romantic Delusions

Laura Diamond may be another red-headed piano playing singer/songwriter, but don't be too quick to sum her up that easily. Rich melodies roll around lush piano voicings which are wrapped up in pop songs that stay with you long after the last note is played. If you listen very carefully, you may hear hints of influences ranging from Billy Joel and The Police to Bill Evans and J.S. Bach, but you will be hard pressed to put your finger on any one in particular that she sounds like. Most often compared to artists such as Alanis Morrissette, Paula Cole and Sarah McLachlin, Laura Diamond has a fresh, distinctive sound that is all her own. In 1999, Laura released her debut CD, 'Adonis...and other romantic delusions' on the independent label, 3 Wishes Records. 'Adonis...' was very well received by critics and fans alike. Her personal and moving lyrics often reveal a hidden side of ourselves, a side which most of us are not comfortable showing to others, yet Laura invites you in, asks you to sit down a while and offers you a cup of coffee in the process. The things she writes about are universal: love, image, acceptance, etc. But she doesn't take herself too seriously either. Humor plays a big role in many of her songs. It's a quiet, understated humor that you find yourself smiling over and nodding your head in agreement. Laura currently lives in New Jersey where she is busy promoting her second CD, 'Flower Garden.' ### What They're Saying About 'Adonis': 'Adonis,' ...is quite simply one of the best discs to come along in a long time! Combining a jazzy piano style reminiscent of Ben Folds Five with high caliber songwriting, Laura grabs your attention right from the start and doesn't let go. While camparisons to Tori Amos and Paula Cole are inevitable, she doesn't really sound like anyone you've heard before. Rich, dynamic and full of passion, Laura's singing will leave you feeling like Alanis and Sarah are merely phoning it in!' -Eric Mundt, Get Fancy! Magazine 'What a great pop band! The tunes are very catchy, with great lyrics and vocals courtesy of the the talented NJ-based Laura Diamond. She is also wonderful on the piano, a little like Tori Amos. Her songwriting is quite skilled, taking you into the journeys of her soul. You can really feel it in her music...it's easy to become mesmerized in her tale.' -Madalyn Kastenbaum, Gogirlsmusic.com 'Leaving nothing hidden, Laura Diamond does what every great songwriter does - gives us a full view of her soul and the range of emotions that exists within.  Moreso, with her duclet tones, she conveys those emotions and tells each story with unmasked honesty and grace...Ms. Diamond let's us all know where she has been, and we come to realize that most of us have been there, too. ' -Ralph Canada, VOX online 'Laura Diamond's style - and she has a lot of it - is unique and witty. There's that sense of irreverent, 'at-your-own-expense' type of humour with an added dash of painful self-doubt that we all tend to go through. She's got the line between laughter and tears pretty blurred here making a thorough listening to the lyrics all that much more enjoyable. It's personal, it's human, and we've all gone through it.' Jodi Krangle, The Muses Muse 'There are some great singer-songwriters out there now in the world - add Laura Diamond to that list.' - Andrew Weaver, The Electric Newspaper 'This is a great example of straight ahead radio friendly music coming out of the indie scene and is among the best I've heard this year. Laura Diamond deserves your attention.' -Kevin Slick, Gajoob.
