Django Reinhardt
Around 70 years after his death, it seems fair to consider Django Reinhardt as one of the best guitarists of all times. Destiny appeared to have another plan for him, when at a young age, he nearly died during a fire that left part of his left hand paralyzed, forcing him to play with just two fingers on that hand. Django made of this misfortune a sort of challenge, developing in his playing a personal style that surpassed all limits of what seemed possible to do with a guitar. He also created music that was essential to the development of jazz in both France and Europe, co-founding the Quintet of the Hot Club of France in the early 1930's with Stéphane Grappelli. Django witnessed the arrival of bebop in the 1940's and 1950's, and contributed truly innovative music, full of class and ingenuity. His virtuosity continues to astonish guitar masters and young musicians today. He passed away at the zenith of a short career, leaving behind a body of recordings that give indisputable proof of his authentic creative genius.
